What is eternal death?

Answer:  In short, eternal death is the fate that awaits all people who ultimately reject God, reject the gospel of His Son, Jesus Christ, and remain in their sin and disobedience. Physical death is a one-time experience. Eternal death, on the other hand, is everlasting. It is a death that continues through eternity, a spiritual death that is experienced on a continual basis. Just as spiritual life, by grace through faith in Christ ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ) is everlasting life, eternal death is never-ending. The most important question to be answered is “Does the Bible teach the doctrine of eternal death?” If the Bible doesn’t teach eternal death, then we can pack up and go home because there is no further debate on the issue. God’s Word, the Bible, is the infallible rule of faith and practice, and as such we must believe and teach only what it clearly teaches, and the Bible clearly teaches the doctrine of eternal death. We can point to several passages that explicitly state this, but for

Is it okay to have premarital sex if you know you are going to marry the person?

From a human perspective, it seems reasonable to think it is okay for a couple to have sex if they are going to be married soon anyway. However, God’s Word has a clear and direct command on this topic: “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” ( Hebrews 13:4 ). The “ sexually immoral ” in this verse includes all those who engage in sex outside of marriage. The world views fornication lightly, but not God. Paul exhorts the Christians at Corinth, saying, “Now for the matters you wrote about: ‘It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.’ But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband” ( 1 Corinthians 7:1–2 ). His words will later encourage those who are able to live single and celibately in order to fully serve Christ ( 1 Corinthians 7:7–9 ,  25–40 ). Biblically, the only appropriate context f

Verse:    1 Samuel 30:6 ‘But David found strength in the LORD His God.’ - What do you look to, to give you the strength you need? - If we look at the storm around us, we will lose hope. - If we place our confidence in people or things, we will be disappointed. - But if we find our strength in the Lord our God, He will see us through. PRAYER:  Lord, I choose to take my eyes off the situation that I am facing. I will not look around in distress and despair, but I will look to You and find my strength in You, my God. Amen. What does the Bible say about sex before marriage?

Image
There is no Hebrew or Greek word used in the Bible that precisely refers to sex before marriage. The Bible undeniably condemns adultery and sexual immorality, but is sex before marriage considered sexually immoral? According to   1 Corinthians 7:2 , “yes” is the clear answer: “But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.” In this verse, Paul states that marriage is the “cure” for sexual immorality.   First Corinthians 7:2   is essentially saying that, because people cannot control themselves and so many are having immoral sex outside of marriage, people should get married. Then they can fulfill their passions in a moral way. Since  1 Corinthians 7:2  clearly includes sex before marriage in the definition of sexual immorality, all of the Bible verses that condemn sexual immorality as being sinful also condemn sex before marriage as sinful. Sex before marriage is included in the biblical definition of sexual immorality. There

Did Jesus change the water into wine or grape juice?

John chapter 2 records Jesus performing a miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. At the wedding, the hosts ran out of wine. Jesus’ mother, Mary, asks Jesus to intervene, and He does so, reluctantly. Jesus has the servants bring six jars filled with water and then instructs the servants to give it to the overseer of the celebration. The water miraculously turns into wine, and the overseer declares that it was the best wine he had ever tasted. In this account, Jesus performed an amazing miracle, actually altering the molecular composition of the water, changing it into wine. The point of the account is summarized in   John 2:11 , "He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples put their faith in Him." Usually, though, when this passage is studied, a side issue becomes the main issue. Did Jesus transform the water into wine (fermented, alcoholic) or into grape juice (non-alcoholic)? Throughout the passage, the Greek word translated "wine" is  oinos , which was the c

Is getting drunk a sin?

Becoming drunk by alcohol is clearly prohibited in the Bible ( Proverbs 20:1 ;   23:20 ;   29–32 ;   Isaiah 5:22 ;   Ephesians 5:18 ). There are many commands in Scripture about behaviors to avoid, such as drunkenness, sexual immorality ( 1 Corinthians 6:18 ), and lying ( Proverbs 6:16–17 ). But the Bible is far more than a definitive list of “sins.” When we approach it as such, we are missing the point. God does not want us to check off a list and consider everything else acceptable. The Pharisees did that, and Jesus was not pleased with them ( Luke 11:42 ;   Matthew 23:23 ). God desires obedience that arises from a loving heart that wants to be like Him ( 1 Peter 1:15 ). Getting drunk is a sin, but what about drinking in moderation? Drinking alcohol has been the subject of debate within the church for centuries. Years ago the majority of Christians considered drinking alcohol in any amount to be sinful. Today there is a much greater acceptance for moderate consumption of alcohol amon

Verse:    Psalm 118:5 ‘Out of my distress I called on the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me free.’ - When we call out of distress, it comes from our hearts and touches God’s heart. - He hears our cry, hears our call, and answers our prayers to Him. - We may call out of our distress, but when the reply comes, how sweet it is. - The Lord will see to it that you move from distress into a place of blessing. PRAYER:  Lord, I release my life, my situation, and my future into Your capable hands. You have heard my cry and You will make a way that will bring me through it all. Amen. Have a great weekend.

What does the Bible say about drinking alcohol?

Image
Scripture has much to say regarding the drinking of alcohol ( Leviticus 10:9 ;   Numbers 6:3 ;   Deuteronomy 29:6 ;   Judges 13:4 ,   7 ,   14 ;   Proverbs 20:1 ;   31:4 ;   Isaiah 5:11 ,   22 ;   24:9 ;   28:7 ;   29:9 ;   56:12 ). However, Scripture does not necessarily forbid a Christian from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. In fact, some Scriptures discuss alcohol in positive terms.   Ecclesiastes 9:7   instructs, “Drink your wine with a merry heart.”   Psalm 104:14-15   states that God gives wine “that makes glad the heart of men.”   Amos 9:14   discusses drinking wine from your own vineyard as a sign of God’s blessing.   Isaiah 55:1   encourages, “Yes, come buy wine and milk…” What God commands Christians regarding alcohol is to avoid drunkenness ( Ephesians 5:18 ). The Bible condemns drunkenness and its effects ( Proverbs 23:29-35 ). Christians are also commanded to not allow their bodies to be “mastered” by anything ( 1 Corinthians 6:12 ;  2 Peter 2
