5 Ways God Answers Prayer

Image
God always answers prayer - just maybe not with an answer you were expecting! Written by Luis Palau Tags: Prayer Over the years, I’ve discovered from Scripture and experience that God loves to answer our prayers. Here are five of his most frequent answers: 1. “No, I love you too much." The Lord of the universe isn’t under obligation to say "yes" to every prayer. That’s a good thing considering some of the things we request! But sometimes God says "no" to our most heartfelt requests. Have you discovered this to be true in your own life? I certainly have. When my friend Diane started losing her hearing. When my mother-in-law came down with polio. When my nephew contracted AIDS. I would be known as Luis Palau Jr. if it weren’t for the fact that God said "no" to my most earnest childhood prayers. Shortly after my tenth birthday, my father, Luis Palau Sr., contracted bronchial pneumonia and died ten days later. Death became, to me, the most

Five Truths God Wants You To Know

These are some basic truths that can help you love God even more. Written by GodLife on 24/09/2019 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Confession, Joy, Temptation, Trust, Eternal Life And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:11-12 Maybe you’ve just placed your faith in Jesus, or maybe you have known Him for a long time. Let these five promises guide you as you follow Jesus, your Lord. If you haven’t trusted Jesus yet to rescue you from sin, consider these five truths that could be yours. 1. 'And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.' (1 John 5:11-12) God makes it clear: if you have Jesus, you have eternal life. If you haven’t believed in Jesus, you don’t have that life. Jesus said “Truly, truly, I s

3 Facts About Being a Child of God

What exactly is this new identity we have in Christ Jesus? Here are three things that happen when you become a child of God. Written by Joy on 25/01/2015 Series: Weekly Devotional “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 Paul tells us; “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). So what exactly is this new identity we have in Christ Jesus? Here are three things that happen when you become a child of God. You are Adopted by God “You have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15). When you become a child of God, you are adopted. You may not have a good human father, but God is a perfect Father. He loves you no matter what. Nothing you do will change God’s love for you (Romans 8:35-39). Sin can hurt your relationship with God, but even if you sin you are still God’s child.

Who Am I Really?

Discovering Your True Identity Written by  Luis Palau Tags:  Family ,  God ,  Identity ,  Jesus This article was written by Andrew Palau. From the time I was seven years old, I hung out with the same group of friends. As we grew up, I carved out an identity for myself that fit in among the group. I was “the crazy one.” When I went off to college and left these familiar friends behind, this reputation I had built for myself disappeared. I realized that I didn’t know who I was because my friends weren’t there to define me. I was plagued by the question: “who am I really?” Left without an answer, I felt lost and out of place. But once I became a follower of Jesus, that question took on a new and exciting dynamic. Who am I? The answer fills my heart with joy, confidence and a sense of eternity. When we accept Jesus Christ, our identity no longer relies on anything or anyone in this world. Many of us let things such as our jobs, our talents or the people around us defin

You might be wondering about your identity as an adopted child of God. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as My prophet to the nations." (Jeremiah 1:5) During our family’s process to adopt a child, we learned that adopted children sometimes wonder about their history and how they fit in. You, too, might wonder about your identity as an adopted child of God. He has known who you were and would become since before your birth, but God lets you discover how He can use your unique personality to minister to others. Your Identity in God When you accept Christ as your Saviour, that means that God has accepted you as His adopted child. Relating to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Who are you in relation to each person of the Trinity? Written by GodLife on 14/02/2016 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Closeness, Identity, Worship There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 If you have come to trust Jesus as your own Savior, you are in a relationship with God that can't be broken. He's beyond what we can imagine. He lives forever and does not change. Big as He is, He is also personal. He is near to us. He created a great variety of people. And He wants us to be close to Him. In a way, variety exists in His own nature. Father, Son and Holy Spirit have a relationship with each other. They also have perfect unity. God teaches us to relate to Him in lots of ways. We work for God and for good because we are saved, not seeking to be saved. Tags: Forgiveness, Good Works, Salvation Throughout the television program, as I counseled people who called in search of spiritual help and prayed on the air with those who wanted to open their hearts to Jesus Christ, the station manager standing in the studio listened intently. "I don’t understand it," he said to me as the program signed off. "I attend church every Sunday. I partake of holy communion. I do confession at the stated times. And yet I have no assurance of eternal life." Unfortunately, millions of Americans share this man’s uncertainty, because they are trusting their own efforts to get them into paradise. This kind of thinking permeates all religions, including traditional Christianity. From the moment Adam disobeyed God in the Garden, man has sought his own way to cover his sin and cleanse his conscience. We desire to do good. We ask the same question the crowd as

Why Good Deeds Don't Get Us Into Heaven

When are the good things I do in my life important? Written by Ruth on 17/09/2019 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Glory, Good Works, Judgment, Pride We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 When is what you are doing pleasing to Jesus? What are “good works”? Most of us want to impress God with how good we can be – we don’t kill anyone or steal. We help someone in trouble or try to be good. But the problem is that it only takes one act, one time, to make us a “sinner.” After that, every good work we try to do has only one purpose – to make ourselves acceptable to God. The problem is we want credit for our actions because we measure our actions against other people rather than against God’s standard. We consider “hating our brother” as some action against them, but Jesus said even the thought in our heart, though never spoken, deserves the same punishment as murder (Matthew 5:2

Holy Spirit's Power

Image
How much power does the Holy Spirit have? The Spirit has all the power of God because He is God. Series: New Believers Guide How much power does the Holy Spirit have? The Spirit has all the power of God because He is God. The life-giving power of the Spirit is seen at creation. We are told in Genesis 1:2 that the “Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters" and that God said, "Let us make man in Our likeness" (Genesis 1:26), demonstrating the equality of the God and the Spirit. We receive the POWER of the Holy Spirit the moment we receive Christ. Romans 8:11 says, "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you." "Then he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." John 20:22

Ephesians 2:10 Given the fact that we belong to God and that life is all about stewarding or managing what God has given us, the question naturally arises in the heart of a Christ-follower: “How do I choose a career that honors God and brings me true fulfillment?” Let’s look at a few key Scripture verses to get started: Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Isaiah 43:6-7: “Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” Psalm 139:13-16: “For you formed my in

Worshipping God Through your Work

Opportunities to worship Jesus fill our daily lives. Written by GodLife on 09/03/2013 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: God, Jesus, Work, Worship "I Am the True Vine, and My Father is the Gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.... Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:1-5) Opportunities to worship Jesus fill our daily lives. A few years ago I witnessed a great example of seizing the moment to love and honor our Savior through work. While my son was putting away the dishes, he broke into praises to our King, singing along with the worship music on the radio (or the stereo - whatever it was). He danced

Am I too far gone to be forgiven and live a new life in God’s grace? Her high heels clicked across the tile floor, and she went out the door. Fun awaited her, and the lure of the high she got from the attention of other men, along with cocaine, was irresistible. She was too numb to feel guilty about her choices. Her green eyes shone with an empty imitation of happiness. Her nights were loud with laughter, but her days taunted her with the silence of the dead-end life she lived. She fought, trying to dismiss th

God knew what He was doing when He ordered periods of rest for His people Written by GodLife on 09/12/2012 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Sabbath "Jesus said, 'Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.' " (Matthew 11:28) If you've ever played an instrument in an orchestra or concert band or sung in a choir, you know how valuable measures (or periods) of rest can be. If musicians have to continue at their notes for long periods with no breaks, it can be exhausting; their music might not be as good if they are tired, and the performance of the whole group might suffer. Composers know what they are doing when they write in rests for their players. Original Day Of Rest Similarly, God knew what He was doing when He ordered periods of rest for His people. God had Moses write number 4 of the 10 Commandments. "Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordina

Psalm 23 is Not For Funerals

Image
This psalm has plenty to say about life! Written by Luis Palau Tags: Hope, Life Psalm 23 has been on my mind a lot lately. I think it should be labeled “not for funerals.” Because of one verse describing “a valley of the shadow of death,” psalm 23 has been most used in times of grief, times of death. But let’s look at this passage closely: 1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Think past the valley of death! This psalm has plenty to say abo
