What does the Bible say about women pastors?

Image
There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than the issue of women serving as pastors. As a result, it is very important to not see this issue as men versus women. There are women who believe women should not serve as pastors and that the Bible places restrictions on the ministry of women, and there are men who believe women can serve as pastors and that there are no restrictions on women in ministry. This is not an issue of chauvinism or discrimination. It is an issue of biblical interpretation. The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” ( 1 Timothy 2:11–12 ). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world ( 1 Timothy 2:13–14 ). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual au

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30)?

In   John 10   Jesus presents Himself as the Good Shepherd and, in a debate with the Jewish leaders, makes the claim, “I and the Father are one” ( John 10:30 ). It was a bold statement—one His audience found quite audacious—and it reveals much about who Jesus is. Five key observations can be made concerning this passage. First, Jesus claimed to be one with God in the sense of being equal to Him. Jesus did not claim to be merely a messenger or prophet of God, but of equal power with God. Second, His audience understood that Jesus was claiming equality with God the Father. In verse 31, “The Jews picked up stones again to stone him.” Why? Blasphemy was a crime punishable by death according to the Jewish Law. When Jesus asked why they were planning to kill Him, they answered, “For blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God” ( John 10:33 ). If Jesus had been lying or deceived, His statement  would  have been blasphemous. In fact, the only way His words were  not  blasphemy is

What did Jesus mean when He said 'I AM'?

Image
Jesus, in response to the Pharisees’ question “Who do you think you are?” said, “‘Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.’ ‘You are not yet fifty years old,’ the Jews said to him, ‘and you have seen Abraham!’ ‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds” ( John 8:56–59 ). The violent response of the Jews to Jesus’ “I AM” statement indicates they clearly understood what He was declaring—that He was the eternal God incarnate. Jesus was equating Himself with the "I AM" title God gave Himself in   Exodus 3:14 . If Jesus had merely wanted to say He existed before Abraham’s time, He would have said, “Before Abraham, I was.” The Greek words translated “was,” in the case of Abraham, and “am,” in the case of Jesus, are quite different. The words chosen by the Spirit make it clear that Abraham was “brought

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6)?

Image
am the way and the truth and the life” is one of the seven “I Am” statements of Jesus. On the last night before His betrayal and death, Jesus was preparing His disciples for the days ahead. For over three years, these men had been following Jesus and learning from His teaching and example. They had placed their hopes in Him as the Messiah, the promised deliverer, yet they still didn’t understand how He was going to accomplish that deliverance. After the   Last Supper , Jesus began speaking about His departure, which led to questions from His disciples. In  John 13:33 , Jesus said, “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.” This prompted Peter to ask where He was going (verse 36). Peter and the others did not understand that Jesus was speaking of His death and ascension to heaven. Jesus’ response was, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow late

Verse:    Isaiah 9:6b 'He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’ - Joy to the world the Lord (The Mighty God) is come. - This was the message of the angels then, and nothing has changed. - The Prince of Peace is still the greatest news of all time. - The greatest gift to the world, the Wonderful One, was all you ever needed. PRAYER:  Lord, I rejoice today in the knowledge that You, the Saviour of the world, would come and be all that I needed. I receive You as my Wonderful Counsellor, my Mighty God, my Everlasting Father, and my Prince of peace. Amen. The time has come – It is time to rejoice. Kind Regards

Will more people go to heaven or to hell?

The question of whether there are more people in heaven or hell is answered by Jesus Himself in one succinct passage: “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few” ( Matthew 7:13–14 ). This passage tells us that only those who receive Jesus Christ and who believe in Him are given the right to become children of God ( John 1:12 ). As such, the gift of eternal life comes only through Jesus Christ to all those who believe. He said, “ I am the way, and the truth, and the life . No one comes to the Father except through me” ( John 14:6 ). It’s not through Mohammed, Buddha, or other false gods of man’s making. It’s not for those wanting a cheap and easy way to heaven while continuing to live their own selfish and worldly lives on earth. Jesus only saves those who fully trust in Him as Savior ( Acts 4:12 ). So, wha

Is Jesus the only way to Heaven?

Image
Yes, Jesus is the only way to heaven. Such an exclusive statement may confuse, surprise, or even offend, but it is true nonetheless. The Bible teaches that there is no other way to salvation than through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself says in   John 14:6 , “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He is not   a   way, as in one of many; He is   the   way, as in the one and only. No one, regardless of reputation, achievement, special knowledge, or personal holiness, can come to God the Father except through Jesus. Jesus is the only way to heaven for several reasons. Jesus was “chosen by God” to be the Savior ( 1 Peter 2:4 ). Jesus is the only One to have come down from heaven and returned there ( John 3:13 ). He is the only person to have lived a perfect human life ( Hebrews 4:15 ). He is the only sacrifice for sin ( 1 John 2:2 ;  Hebrews 10:26 ). He alone fulfilled the Law and the Prophets ( Matthew 5:17 ). He is the only man to have conquere

Have a great week.

How to get to heaven - what are the ideas from the different religions?

There appear to be five major categories regarding how to get to heaven in the world’s religions. Most believe that hard work and wisdom will lead to ultimate fulfillment, whether that is unity with god (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Baha’i) or freedom and independence (Scientology, Jainism). Others, like Unitarianism and Wicca, teach the afterlife is whatever you want it to be, and salvation is a non-issue because the sin nature doesn’t exist. A few believe either the afterlife doesn’t exist or it’s too unknowable to consider. Derivatives of the worship of the Christian-Judeo God generally hold that faith in God and/or Jesus and the accomplishment of various deeds, including baptism or door-to-door evangelism, will ensure the worshiper will go to heaven. Only Christianity teaches that salvation is a free gift of God through faith in Christ ( Ephesians 2:8–9 ), and no amount of work or effort is necessary or possible to get to heaven. Atheism : Most atheists believe there is no heaven—no a

With all of the different religions, how can I know which one is correct?

There is no doubt that the number of different religions in the world makes it a challenge to know which one is correct. First, let’s consider some thoughts on the overall subject and then look at how one might approach the topic in a manner that can actually get to a right conclusion about God. The challenge of different answers to a particular issue is not unique to the topic of religion. For example, you can sit 100 math students down, give them a complex problem to solve, and it is likely that many will get the answer wrong. But does this mean that a correct answer does not exist? Not at all. Those who get the answer wrong simply need to be shown their error and know the techniques necessary to arrive at the correct answer. How do we arrive at the truth about God? We use a systematic methodology that is designed to separate truth from error by using various tests for truth, with the end result being a set of right conclusions. Can you imagine the end results a scientist would arr
