Cornelius, a Roman centurion; was a devout and generous man, but he was not saved. When the angel of God appeared to him, he didn’t say “Cornelius, your good deeds outweigh your bad deeds, so salvation is yours”; the angel had to tell him to send for Peter, who would tell him words by which he would be saved. When Peter got to Cornelius’ house, he preached to him and his household, the message of Christ’s salvation, declaring to them that anyone who believes in Jesus will receive remission of sins and be saved. The way to receive salvation is to confess with your mouth the Lordship of Jesus, and believe with your heart that God raised Him from the dead for your justification.
