The Commandment of Love

You have heard that it said"Love your neighbour and hate your enemy." But I tell you; love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. To love our enemies and to pray for our persecutors, are in many ways the same ideas. Love for the enemy will lead to pray for him. To pray for our enemies is an indication that we love them. Under no circumstances does it mean that we approve the deeds of our enemies. We just choose another option to deal with them. It is clear from Matthew 5:45, if we love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, we are called children of God. Love for the enemy is therefore not an indication of weakness, but of the strength of the children of God. How will God judge you today? Does your life show that you broke out of the disorder of hatred and revenge and live as a child of God? Spirit of God, break all the power of sin in me and make me more like Christ, for the sake of your honour. Amen.
