Revealed by Nature

Have you ever experienced the love of an animal? Written by GodLife on 19/01/2013 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Creation, God, Love "Ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature."(Romans 1:20) Have you ever experienced the love of an animal? I have pet cats, and like many pet owners or people who work with animals, I know that they can be very affectionate. When my cat loves me, I praise God for His wonderful Creation and for sharing His love with us through animals. Do you ever see God’s love because of interaction with nature? It is fun to praise Him when we can witness the amazing world He has made. Loving Creator God God made a marvelous universe, and He has a miraculous plan to redeem all Creation. The Apostle Paul preached to the wise people of Athens, “He is the God who made the world and everything in it” (Acts 17:24)

Knowing God Through His Creation

Everything God creates reveals something about Him Written by Don Olson on 26/02/2019 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Creation, Science, Bible, Joy, Wonder For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Romans 1:20 God delights in His creation and in revealing Himself in and through it. Everything God creates reveals something about Him. That is why He told us about His creation in more than 200 verses and passages throughout the Bible.  “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20) In this verse, Paul is saying that we only have to look around at nature to see that an almighty God -- a supreme creator -- exists. Creation is a source of joy From the B

How to Follow God's Commands

onah’s story shows us what happens when we disobey God’s commands Written by GodLife on 20/03/2018 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Grace, Mercy, Obedience, Commands, God Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. Jonah 1:1-3 When I started college, I felt God commanding me to fully commit to a church family so that He could work through fellow believers to shape me more like Jesus. How did I respond? I disobeyed and my life hit a sorrowful low as I continued to ignore the commands of Jesus. It was only by God’s grace and mercy that He received me back and I began to take his commands seriously again. Have you ever tried to avoid a direct command from the Lord? A story in the Bible of a prophet named Jonah shows us more clearly what can happen when a believer of God directly diso

Jesus Can Heal Addiction

Image
You can be free from addiction. Written by Lois on 24/05/2016 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Addiction, Forgiveness, Freedom, Grace, Sin The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT) We all have wrong desires and are tempted, but God has given us an Advocate who will help us resist sin if we are willing. Are you tired of being addicted to alcohol, sex, drugs, pornography or greed? Jesus has made a way for you to be free. This is how you can resist temptation and allow Jesus to heal your addiction. There are countless people who are enjoying an addiction because they have not faced consequences yet. Galatians 6:8 tells us if a person “sows to please his own wrong desires, he will be planting seeds of evil and he will surely reap a harvest of spiritual decay and death; but if he plants the good things of the Spirit, he will reap the eve

Recovering From Addiction

How far are you willing to go in destroying your life with an addiction? Written by David on 28/03/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Repentance, Forgiveness, New Life, Restitution, Brokenness If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot. James 5:16 The end of the line for an addicted person is a self-made prison with four walls — Terror, Confusion, Frustration and Despair. There seem to be no doors or windows, and fear fills your life as you see that you’ve embraced self-destruction of your own accord. There is no protection for what awaits you in the deepest, darkest, isolated, solitary moment of an out-of-control life of sin. God’s Word is there to give you hope. But first there must be a "death:" “In the same way, you must think of yourselves as dead to the power of sin. But Christ Jesus has given life to you, and you

Overcoming the Old Nature

Image
How do I handle tough times and temptations? Take off the old self with its practices… and put on the new self. Colossians 3:9, 10 NIV Does becoming a follower of Jesus exempt you from difficulty? No. You are not miraculously whisked into a trouble-free glass bubble when you are born again. Rather, you become a battlefield, where you contend with ongoing temptations and daunting challenges. Though we received a new nature at conversion, we inherited a nasty carryover from our former life called “the old nature.” That legacy from the past hangs around, throwing up roadblocks to the Christ-centered life. It’s not easy to disconnect from ideas and habits that have defined us for so long. But there’s good news! Jesus took our old nature to the grave when He was crucified. The new nature He gave us in its place is intended to fully displace the old. Our job now is to be aggressive in making that happen. The Apostle Paul says, “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in

Hope for the Hurting and Trapped Written by Dan Lee on 29/11/2016 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Temptation, Addiction, Sin I have the right to do anything,” you say — but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything” — but I will not be mastered by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 Addiction is a loaded word with many meanings. We tend to think of it as extreme, however, anyone can suffer from addiction, and it’s far more common than you think. The World Health Organization tells us that worldwide, 6 million people die every year due to tobacco use, and 3.3 million die due to alcohol related causes. Alcohol, drugs, and smoking have caused much misery for years. But now, we can add pornography, TV binge-watching, overeating, shopping, and video games. For instance, one woman in New Mexico, USA, was spending over 12 hours a day playing a multiplayer video game — and let her 3-year-old daughter starve to death. Clearly, our world needs to healed from addictio

Here are some simple ways you can improve your prayer life. Written by Colin Millar on 12/02/2019 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Prayer, Relationships, Salvation, Thankfulness Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16 Recently I was driving while listening to a College Student Prayer Conference Call over the speaker in my car. My youngest son, Chris, leads this Tuesday night of “College Worship with a Message” and for most of the time, it turns into 45 minutes of prayer. I’ve heard Chris pray many times before, but on this night when I heard his voice, three things happened at the same moment! Tears of joy sprung forth from my eyes. I heard the voice of our Heavenly Father over my own voice saying: “That's my son!” God gave me inexplicable joy. The same joy in our Father experiences when we, His children cry out loud to Him in prayer. Thi

Why Prayer Is So Important

Five reasons why prayer is the answer when life turns upside down. Written by Janet Perez Eckles on 18/04/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Prayer, Healing, Reassurance, Confidence, Anxiety The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. Psalm 34:18 The doctor’s news crushed me. I squirmed on the examining chair. “There is nothing that can be done for this retinal disease,” he said as he pulled back from examining my eyes. “No one knows how long you’ll have your sight. You need to prepare for the inevitable.” He was right. Despite my frantic search for a cure, a few months later my vision closed in completely. Horrified, anxious and desperate, I trembled at the notion that without sight, I would not be able to care for my three small sons. I tossed awake at night questioning God. Where was He? Why didn’t He hear my prayers as I begged for a miracle? Hope threatened to leave me. But one day God showed up. That day a friend invited me to

Nehemiah 2:4, 8 By Colin Milar If you look at the verses above, one of the shortest prayers mentioned in the Bible made a huge difference, and Nehemiah received everything he needed to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in just 53 days! In Nehemiah’s case, his short prayer for help in mid-sentence of answering King Artaxerxes’ question: “What is your request?” is a beautiful picture of what God calls us to do in 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Pray without ceasing.” Nehemiah prayed in the midst of a conversation because he knew, by faith, that his heart cry would make a difference. How Long Will God Take to Answer My Prayer?

Have you ever wondered, “Is God there? If He is, why doesn’t He answer my prayer?" Written by Janet Perez Eckles on 18/09/2018 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Anxiety, Peace, Prayer, Stress Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:10-14 If you’ve asked yourself “how long God will take to answer my prayer?” You’re not alone, we’ve all been there! Even the Israelites join us in that grumbling.  When Pharaoh ordered the Egyptians to march after the Israelites, they were terrified and cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? What happens the moment after you die?

Image
Every day thousands of people will take their final breath and slip into eternity, either into heaven or into hell. Although we may never know their names, the reality of death happens every day. What happens the moment after you die? The moment after you die, your soul temporarily departs from your body to await the Resurrection. Those who place their faith in Christ will be carried by the angels into the presence of the Lord. They are now comforted. Absent from the body and present with the Lord. Meanwhile, unbelievers await in Hades for the final Judgment. “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments… And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” ~ Luke 16:23a-24 “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” ~ Ecclesiastes 12:7 Although, we grieve over the loss of our loved ones, we

Jesus Has Saved Me

Image
How can you be sure you are saved? Series: Look to Jesus If you have had feelings of doubt following your decision to receive Christ, you are not alone. How can you be sure you are saved? How do Christians find confidence they will remain in their relationship with Jesus? What must I do to be saved? First, look to see what God says you must do to be saved. The Bible says salvation is simple. “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31) Salvation begins with “repentance” - turning from sin and depending only on Jesus, instead of yourself or someone else. When people asked Jesus what kind of human work God likes, He said, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:29). Second, what did God promise? “And this is what He promised us—eternal life” (1 John 2:25). It cost Jesus His own blood, giving up His life, to give you eternal life. But it was a free gift to you (Ephesians 2:8-9). What the Bible says about being s

Those two billion believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and the Son of God. He is completely unique. The Bible says, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). The most important decision you will make in your entire life is whether to believe in Jesus Christ or not -- on that rests your eternal destiny. Are you willing to learn about Jesus Christ today? What makes it possible to study Jesus is that His life was one of the most well documented of any in ancient times. Three of His followers, Peter, Matthew, and John, wrote books about Jesus in the New Testament. The apostle Paul wrote extensively about Jesus within the first thirty years after His death. How to Pray

Image
Are you unsure of how to talk to God? Let this five-step starter guide help you begin your prayer life! Written by Abide A common definition of prayer is “talking to God.”  But how often do you take time to stop and listen to His response to you? Our prayers include asking, begging and requesting something of God.  Scripture tells us He loves the sweet smell of those prayers. However, if all we do in prayer is spend time asking, what space, time or margin is left to listen to the Lord’s response? Only by God’s grace through faith in Christ does He allow our broken lives the experience of communing with Him.  Seeing our transformed minds connect more deeply with the peace of God.   The result is peace, stillness, renewal, centeredness, and alignment with God. When we are mindful with our prayers, we allow God to bring our future hope into our present reality. This series will help you unlock the secrets of living in a state of calm, peaceful, active attention on the present
