What Does the Bible Say About Confession?

Even Kings Confess Their Sins. Written by Lois on 13/06/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Repent, Confess, Sin, Salvation, Jesus, Christ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 There are two types of confession in the Bible: an initial confession of faith in Jesus Christ, and an ongoing confession of our sins to God. A confession of faith is the action you need to take to become a believer in Jesus Christ and receive the gift of eternal life He alone offers. Romans 10:9 says you will be saved if you honestly admit “…that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.” True salvation is an undertaking of the heart, not just a mind task. It doesn’t seem like a complex decision, but is the most important decision of your life. Jesus goes on to say in Matthew 10:32: “Everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heave

Jesus was the true Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world for good

Jesus Is Salvation Jesus was the true Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world for good Written by GodLife Series: Jesus Booklet Tags: Jesus, Salvation When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29) What did he mean? In the Old Testament, God told the people of Israel to sacrifice a lamb to pay for their sin. The problem was that after the lamb was sacrificed, the people of Israel would continue to sin. So even a pure, spotless lamb could not ultimately take away their sin. When John saw Jesus, he knew Jesus was the true Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world for good. All who would come to Jesus as their Savior could be truly forgiven of their sin. How was this possible? It is just as if you owed $100 and had no money to pay. The penalty for nonpayment is prison. Suddenly, along comes someone who pays your debt for you. They could do it in one of two way

5 More Names of Jesus

What do the other names of Jesus tell us about Him? Written by GodLife on 20/06/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Jesus, Savior, Shepherd, Lord, Gift The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10 As I read through the Bible, my favorite thing to do is look for Jesus. Jesus said the whole Bible is talking about Him (Luke 24:27; John 5:39; Hebrews 10:7). He’s called many different things throughout God’s Word. Here are five more names for Jesus. How do they give us a more complete picture of His nature? 1. Messenger of the Covenant The Old Testament looks forward to a “New Covenant” (Jeremiah 31:31-34, Ezekiel 36:24-28) in which God will make a way for people to walk with Him. In Malachi 3:1, Jesus is called the “Messenger” of that covenant. As John 1:17 says, “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” 2. Good Shepherd In Psalm 23, one of the best-known passages in the Bible, Davi

How To Confess How is “confession good for the soul?” What is Biblical confession of sins?

How is “confession good for the soul?” What is Biblical confession of sins? Written by GodLife on 06/06/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Confession, Forgiveness, Sin, Salvation, Holiness If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 Sin separates you from having a fellowship with God. “Sin is lawlessness.” (1 John 3:4) It includes giving in to temptation. (James 1:13-15) Refusing to do what is right. “…whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17) Even “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23) And “sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” (James 1:15) If this is true, there aren’t just “seven deadly sins,” are there? All sin is “mortal!” Classifying sins only hides that fact. We’ve all done and thought things that would make us God’s enemy: “On account of these the wrath of God is coming.” (Colossians 3:6) How can we get rig

The Beatitudes: How to Have a Blessed Life

Jesus’ Radically Dependent Life Reproduced in His Followers Written by GodLife on 24/01/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Jesus, Happy, Blessed, Grace, Mercy It is enough for disciples to be like their teacher and for slaves to be like their master. Matthew 10:25 As followers of Jesus, we have to know what He taught in order to know Him and follow Him. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, found in the book of Matthew (Chapters 5-7), is a great start. A religious scholar once said that nothing “…exhorts us more than this Sermon on the Mount to be what we are meant to be, and to live as we are meant to live; to be like Christ by being a complete contrast to everyone who does not belong to Christ.” Do you want your life to stand out in radical contrast to the rest of the world? Let His teachings be your guide. “God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!” (Matthew 5:3) This means we come to understand we have nothing to offer God. What To Do When Standing Before the Judge .God is the righteous judge

God is the righteous judge Written by Janet Perez Eckles on 30/05/2017 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Judgment, Mercy, Grace For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face. Psalm 11:7 My hands sweated and my heart raced as I sat stiff on that courtroom chair nearly two decades ago. My first days as a court interpreter were grueling and brutal, and the stress almost defeated me. “Mrs. Eckles, approach the bench,” the judge said during one of the sessions. I froze, swallowed hard and headed toward him. I trembled. Judges judge you, dole out punishment and sometimes even dictate your destiny. To my shock, rather than reprimand, his words were ones of affirmation and praise about my job as an interpreter. They didn’t hold condemnation or harshness. When approaching God’s divine bench, I hope you don’t do what I did when approaching the judge’s bench. When we accept Christ and He lives in us, His words ring different than what we

Calling , How can I serve God in my work?

How can I serve God in my work? Written by John Beckett Series: 30 Day Next Steps Tags: God, Jesus, Purpose, Work “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Colossians 3:23). Our primary calling is always to Christ. Os Guinness in The Call says, “First and foremost we are called to Someone (God), not to something…or to somewhere.” But he adds that God also calls us vocationally. His plan for us includes our work. As a young believer I thought that to fully serve God I had to go into some type of “full-time” Christian work. Yet my interests and background pointed toward engineering and business. When I asked the Lord for guidance, I sensed Him saying, “John, I’ve called you to business. Do it with all your heart.” Many Christians struggle to know their calling. Our culture incorrectly differentiates between “sacred” and “secular,” asserting that sacred activities are nobler. Neither Jesus nor His followers held this view. A. W. Tozer, in The Pursuit

What to do When Your Money is Gone

There is hope in Jesus! Written by Lois on 01/11/2015 Series: Weekly Devotional Tags: Faith, Hope, Money “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 Unemployment can disrupt our plans to buy a home, pay for school or help a parent. Few people make plans for job loss. Some might save a percentage of their money with hopes of earning more in the future. We’re tempted to lose hope and give up on future plans when we lose our jobs. Even though their situation looked hopeless, God told the Israelites in Jeremiah 29:11 about His good plans for hope for their lives. Isn’t that great? Jesus loves you so much He has a plan for your life. Have I been responsible? Have you ever been laid off from a job? It feels like being fired, even though you are not. After all, the result is the same: being without a job. I go to my Father in Heaven asking, Lord was there anything I could have d
